Local digital music platform Vwaza has expanded its reach by launching an iOS (iPhone Operating System) platform, enabling Malawian artists to sell their music directly to fans and earn a higher percentage of revenue.

Founder Joel Ngozo Fickson explained that the platform is designed to promote music ownership and provide better financial returns for artists. "At Vwaza, we want to move away from the subscription-based model that most streaming services use. We understand that people no longer want to keep paying monthly for music. We are bringing back the concept of music ownership, allowing fans to buy the music and own it forever, just like they did with CDs in the past," he said.

Key Highlights of the Vwaza Platform:

80% Revenue to Artists: Artists receive 80% of their earnings from music sales, with real-time insights into streams and earnings. Immediate Payments: Musicians can withdraw earnings instantly to their mobile wallets, avoiding long waits to meet streaming thresholds. Offline and Online Access: Fans can purchase music and have permanent access both online and offline. Local Payment Options: The platform accommodates local payment methods to ensure accessibility for all Malawians. iOS and Android Access: With its availability on both the Apple Store and Google Play Store, Vwaza is reaching a broader audience.

Musician Slessor praised the platform, noting its efficiency in distributing his album and ensuring immediate payment. "The platform is satisfactory. Artists get the money the moment a person purchases their music," he shared.

Another artist, Issabel King, described Vwaza as a game-changer. "It is an easy-to-use platform compared to others and is beneficial to artists in terms of returns," she said.

Vwaza's launch of the iOS version ensures that more fans can access Malawian music, strengthening the connection between local artists and their supporters while empowering creatives with better revenue opportunities.
