Malawian hip-hop artist Classick, a prominent member of the duo Home Grown Africa, has refuted recent rumors suggesting that he is struggling with alcohol addiction.
The claims were sparked by digital creator Fayaz Mainja, who has a following of over 7,000 on Facebook. Mainja voiced his concerns in a post, claiming, “One of my friends saw him last week, and he seemed to be acting strangely, like he’s lost his mind. He really needs prayers.”
Mainja further added, “His friends may try to defend him, but the signs are worrying. He’s clearly battling addiction; the version of himself he presents online is not real.”
The post gained further traction when Don Khiva shared screenshots of Mainja’s comments on X (formerly Twitter), amplifying the concerns. Khiva urged Classick’s close friend and fellow artist Hayze Engola to check in on him, referencing Boy Magic’s struggles with addiction and its effects on his career.
Classick, who is known as “I AM ZULU” on X, responded the following day, addressing the accusations directly. In a calm and measured statement, he said, “You’d be surprised who actually scripts things on here. I speak the truth. Not sure about your homie seeing me—last week, someone told MyBadItsElu I was at Blues, but I haven’t been there since last year. But I hear you.”
His response was met with overwhelming support from his fans, who expressed their longing for his music during his recent hiatus from releasing new tracks. Don Khiva also responded positively, expressing relief: “I’m just glad that you sound good, brother.”
This exchange highlighted the unity within the music community, with both artists and fans showing strong support for Classick in the face of speculation.
