Drake Faces Legal Trouble Over Kendrick Lamar’s “Not Like Us” Diss Track
Drake is embroiled in a growing legal battle over Kendrick Lamar’s diss track “Not Like Us,” which has escalated from a hip-hop feud into a courtroom clash. What began as a lyrical exchange between two of hip-hop's biggest stars has now taken a turn that may prove costly for the Canadian rapper.
The tension between Drake and Lamar reignited with the release of First Person Shooter, a track by J. Cole and Drake. The song seemed to pay homage to Lamar, with J. Cole referencing the “big three” of hip-hop—Drake, Lamar, and himself. However, the peace was short-lived, with Kendrick Lamar firing back on Like That, a feature on Future and Metro Boomin’s We Don’t Trust You. Lamar’s lines took aim at both Drake and J. Cole, positioning himself as the top contender.
Drake’s response escalated the situation, with multiple diss tracks aimed at Lamar. However, the feud took a darker turn when Drake targeted Lamar’s fiancée, Whitney Alford, suggesting infidelity and questioning their children’s paternity—breaking the unwritten rule of rap battles by involving family members.
The tension reached its peak with Lamar’s track Not Like Us, which not only solidified Lamar’s lyrical dominance but also led to widespread cultural attention, including a high-profile NFL halftime performance. Meanwhile, Drake’s controversial move to use AI-generated voices in his Taylor Made Freestyle—which included a disturbing attempt to have Lamar call him a paedophile—further fueled the feud.
As a result, Drake now finds himself on the defensive. The lawsuit he has filed against “Not Like Us” is facing considerable challenges, especially as his own actions and tracks, such as the Taylor Made Freestyle, could be used against him in court. The situation has left Drake struggling to maintain his position, now a punchline in the hip-hop world for his ill-advised tactics.
With critics and fans alike panning his subsequent tracks, including The Heart Part 6, Drake’s only recourse seems to be the courtroom, although many view his legal fight as a losing battle. What began as a rap feud has now exposed the cost of crossing boundaries, with Drake finding himself facing the consequences of his own words and actions.
