Miss Malawi Returns After Two-Year Break
Malawi's premier beauty pageant, Miss Malawi, will return on November 28 under new management, the Miss Malawi Organisation, after a two-year hiatus due to financial .
Godfrey Kambewa, creative director of the new organisers, explained that the previous challenges included low corporate interest, but this is changing with increased support for arts and culture. This year, online applications will open from March 10 to April 30, followed by regional walk-in interviews.
The pageant will focus on mentorship, advocacy, and long-term impact, reintroducing the original Miss Malawi crown. Contestants will be narrowed down through a pre-elimination event, with the top 12 competing in the grand finale. The organisers plan to make Miss Malawi a self-sustaining event to attract future investments.
2022 winner Jescar Mponda acknowledged the struggle caused by funding issues during her reign but expressed hope that the new organisers would bring improvements. The competition is open to Malawian women aged 18-29 with a Malawi School Certificate of Education qualification.
