Popular musician and social media influencer JB, real name Alberto Fernando Zacarias, has successfully raised K19,950,000 through his Mavyete Malawi Food Relief initiative, a non-political effort aimed at providing maize to Malawians struggling with food insecurity.

The campaign received overwhelming support from Malawians abroad, particularly those in the United States, with more than 80 donors contributing. Among the top contributors were Mac Zakulanda and an anonymous donor, each giving $250, roughly K1 million based on the current black market exchange rate.

On Tuesday, JB took to Facebook to announce the milestone, publicly listing the names of those who had donated. During a live session, he expressed deep gratitude to all supporters and assured them that maize distribution would begin before the end of the month. He emphasized that priority would be given to the most hunger-affected areas, which are still being identified. His team is also working to source maize at the most affordable prices to maximize the impact of the donations.

Beyond fundraising, JB took a moment to address misconceptions about life abroad, urging Malawians to appreciate the sacrifices made by the diaspora. He reminded locals that many who send money back home work long hours and endure hardships, and he encouraged recipients to use financial support wisely, recognizing the effort behind every contribution.

With this initiative, JB continues to show that influencers can play a vital role in addressing social challenges, proving that music and social media can be powerful tools for real change.
