Robert Chiwamba

As the world celebrates World Poetry Day, Robert Chiwamba, President of the Poetry Association of Malawi, has called on poets to use their craft as a tool for spreading messages of unity and peace. With the upcoming elections in September, Chiwamba highlighted the crucial role poetry can play in fostering positive change and maintaining harmony in the country.

"Poems have the power to inspire, to educate, and to unite," Chiwamba stated. "As poets, we have a responsibility to use our words to promote unity and peace, especially during this critical period in our country's history." The Poetry Association of Malawi has adopted "Unity and Peace" as its theme for the year, urging poets to channel their creativity to reinforce this important message.

In addition to promoting unity, the Poetry Association of Malawi is also dedicated to encouraging poetic excellence. On World Poetry Day, the organization held a ceremony featuring a powerful poem by Benedicto Wokomaatani Malunga, which highlighted the effective use of poetic devices. During the event, the association also shared its procedures for receiving funds from the Copyright Fund.

As Malawi prepares for the upcoming elections, Chiwamba and the Poetry Association of Malawi are calling on poets to leverage their art to inspire peace and unity. By doing so, they can play a pivotal role in shaping the future of the country, helping to foster a culture of understanding and cooperation. As Chiwamba emphasized, "We poets have a responsibility to use our words to make a positive impact on our country. Let us use our poetry to promote unity and peace, and to inspire a brighter future for all Malawians."
